Police train special squad to reinforce fight against insecurity in Imo
Imo State Police Command has commenced special trainings for personnel of the command to enhance their skills on the fight against insurgency and violent crimes, including terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the state.
The training, which had 500 officers drawn from all divisions and formations of the command, The Guardian gathered, was in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directive on the continuous training and retraining of Police officers across the country.
Speaking to newsmen during his inspection visit to the training ground, at the Mopol 18 Headquarters in Ogbakwu, along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway, Owerri, the state Police Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, said the training was also aimed at enhancing the trainees’ operational effectiveness for improved threat response and community safety.
The CP further reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to overall development and general welfare of its personnel to ensure optimal service delivery and adequate security in the state.
Danjuma also urged the trainees to uphold the highest level of professionalism and dedication to duty, adding that the IGP has zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct.
“After this training, you will be deployed into the bush to combat insurgency. We want to take the fight into the hideouts of these criminal elements tormenting our state. We are already winning the fight and peace gradually returned to our state,” he said.
The Imo Police boss also expressed gratitude to the IGP and the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, for their continuous support to the command, assuring that the Command under his watch is committed to achieving crime-free Imo.
