Police in Lagos have apprehended two men, Mande Bello and Samsudeen Usman, following their attempt to steal a tricycle taxi from a physically challenged rider.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 9 near the Oyingbo roundabout.
The suspects and an accomplice named Gazali hired the tricycle for a journey to Aja.
However, they requested to be dropped off at the 3rd Mainland Bridge intersection. When the rider initially refused, Mande Bello allegedly attempted to strangle him with an electric cable.
A struggle ensued, and the rider escaped with the suspects still on board. Gazali jumped off, but the determined rider drove directly to the Denton Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyingbo, where he reported the attempted robbery and assault.
Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrests and said a search is underway for the escaped suspect, Gazali. Bello and Usman will be charged upon completion of the investigation.
SP Hundeyin also warned tricycle riders to be vigilant, as the suspects are believed to be part of a gang targeting tricycle drivers in Lagos.
