Arewa Youths Urge Jonathan To Sack Security Chiefs
NORTHERN youths, under the umbrella of Arewa Youth Forum, (AYF) have called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack all the security chiefs who recommended the shift in dates of the general elections, for alleged gross incompetence in their duties.
The Arewa youths said that the security chiefs had the opportunity to read the security situation in the country several months before the initial February, 2015 dates and proffer solution to the security challenge, but advised only a week to the polls that the elections be shifted.
The National President of AYF, Mallam Ibrahim Gambo Gujungu in a statement Friday, said that it was an indictment on the security chiefs who had been aware of the date of the elections for a long time to come up at the last minute to say they could not guarantee security for Nigerians during the polls.
Gujungu also stated that “AYF was also bothered by the verbal missile coming from some prominent Nigerians, most especially the ex-Niger Delta militants who are threatening war,” stressing that “this is not good enough for the corporate existence of the country as such stance can be a recipe for anarchy.”
Gujungu noted that the youths are truly and sincerely committed to bringing back the glory of the region as a peaceful and serene place for all, which informed why we they are currently involved in a Peace and Conflict Mitigation Project aimed at bring back peace to the region.
