Gunmen Attack Ortom, Disrupt Sambe’s Funeral

GUNMEN in Adikpo, the headquarter of Kwande Local Government Area, Friday had shot and damaged three vehicles on the convoy of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom,  during the funeral of the late Dr Samson Sambe, disrupting the funeral ceremony.

 Dr. Ortom who was delivering funeral oration was interrupted by sporadic gunshots that threw the arena into confusion as sympathizers started to scamper for safety.

Despite the intervention by the elder brother of the deceased and Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Asen Sambe, to calm the guests, the funeral was hurriedly concluded.

Ortom completed his speech only to realise three of his vehicles parked near the Magistrate Court has been hit by gunshot.

The glass on the back side of a Ford Hillux van was shattered. Other affected vehicles belonged to a journalist.  The gunmen later sped off under hail of gunshots.

  Ortom after inspecting the damaged vehicles had lodged a formal complaint to the Divisional Police Officer, in Adikpo.
