The police in Lagos State have arrested 28-year-old Yakubu Yusuf for vandalising the aluminium railings of the Third Mainland Bridge. The Guardian learned that the Onikan Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led an anti-crime patrol to Third Mainland Bridge after receiving information that hoodlums were vandalising the railings in the direction of Old School of Nursing.
Yusuf was arrested, and 21 long pieces of aluminium railings were recovered while other accomplices took to their heels. Also, a man, Vincent Ukpai, was arrested for killing his neighbour, Gloria, and her son following an argument in the Elemoro area of Lagos State.
After the killing, he put their bodies in a large bag, also known as “Ghana-must-go.” Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident.
Detectives from the Elomoro Police Division rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the remains of the deceased. The remains have been deposited at Epe General Hospital Mortuary.
The command also revealed that a 54-year-old man, simply identified as Olatunji, committed suicide by hanging.
“On Sunday, September 15, 2024, a complainant reported at Elere Police Division, telling the police that Olatunji, who is her younger brother, had committed suicide by hanging himself in the store of their house.
“Officers from the division visited the scene, and the deceased was lowered and taken to Orile Agege General Hospital, where he was certified dead. No mark of violence was found on the body of the deceased. His remains have been deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy,” Hundeyin said.
Relatedly, Olanrewaju Isola has resumed as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police. Isola replaces Fayoade Adegoke, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
