THE new Commissioner of Police in charge of the Sokoto State Police Command, Alhaji Salisu Abdullahi Fagge has lamented that activities of political thugs were seriously threatening the peaceful nature of the state, however, assuring citizens of the state of a hitch free and violence free poll.

Fagge, who was addressing his maiden press conference since resuming office eleven days ago, said that he had taken time to study and analyse the security situation and “discovered that Sokoto State is one of the most peaceful states in the federation.”

He however, expressed concern that political activities towards the upcoming general elections was trying to destroy the peaceful nature of the state as members of the public were becoming disenchanted with the word politics in view of reports of political thuggery from all the twenty-three local government areas.

According to him, rather than accept politics as a game to be played in tandem with rules and regulations put in place by the umpire, INEC, political parties, their leaders and their supporters were trying to turn politics into war.

He therefore said that the command would be shirking its responsibility if it folds its arm and become bystanders while hooligans were turning the state into a battlefield.
