A GROUP of communication scholars and practitioners have charged stakeholders in the media to strictly adhere to the existing professional codes of journalism in the coverage of the 2015 general elections.

The group at the one-day consultative forum held at the Conference Hall of Covenant University Guest House, Ota, Ogun State, at the weekend, reiterated the role of the media in fostering national cohesion, especially during elections, thus the need to abide by the professional and ethical principles.

The forum, which was attended by representatives from the African Council for Communication Education, Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and communication experts from the host institution, deliberated on national security issues, seeking how ethical principles should be deployed in media reportage and general practice of journalism in the country, security for journalists, welfare, training, economic survival of media houses, media narratives, hate-speeches, social media and the clash of government’s interest and employer’s interest.
