MUSLIMS under the aegis of South-East Muslims Organization ( SEMO) rose from a meeting in Umuahia Abia State commending Nigerians for their “tolerance and insistence on an indivisible entity called Nigeria despite  provocations occasioned by unrepentant elites”

In a communiqué issued after  the meeting which was attended by  members of the their national executives, the group  decried “the heating up of the polity under the pretense of seeking  political power” even as they described such as “immaterial and self-serving knowing fully well that in the end, only one candidate will emerge the winner . “ In order not to endanger the lives and properties of  vulnerable Nigerians, politicians should conduct their political and electioneering campaigns within the ambit of the law and in tandem with the democratic principles.”

The communique signed by the Secretary General , Alhaji  Suleiman  Ukandu and made available to The Guardian also stated that  what is  “expected of Nigeria now is bridging the gap between the haves and the have-nots by implementing   economic policies that create the middle-class and equally ensure that the rich ones are taxed enough to balance economic forces.”

They urged that the fears of marginalization should be looked into objectively, and the question of minority status, either ethnically or  religiously be seriously addressed to institute a proper  national integration in the nations structural institutions.
