Tribunal sacks Niger PDP senator, gives seat to APC
THE National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Minna, the Niger State capital on Friday declared Barr. David Umaru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the authentic winner of Niger East Senatorial by-election conducted on August 30, 2014.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Dr. Shem Zagbayi Nuhu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as victor of the poll.
Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Ibrahim Bako, who handed the verdict, said Umaru polled 79,779 against the 68,525 votes garnered by Nuhu.
The APC flagbearer had headed for the tribunal to contest INEC’s announcement of his rival as winner of the election.
