No sit-at-home in Southeast on Tuesday, Simon Ekpa’s IPOB group clarifies

Finland-based pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, has clarified that there will be no sit-at-home on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in the Southeast.

This comes as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) also denied declaring a sit-at-home exercise for October 21 and 22 in any part of Igbo land.

Ekpa, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, stressed that there would be no sit-at-home on Tuesday apart from the one observed on Monday to press home the demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, and for the delegitimization of Nigeria within Biafraland.

The pro-Biafra agitator countered circulating claims that there would be a sit-at-home on Tuesday, saying there would be no such action on the claimed date.

According to him, he will be live on his account to explain to Biafrans why there will be no sit-at-home on Tuesday.

“Ekpa has cleared the air on the rumoured sit-at-home, and he promised to be live on X space to announce to Biafrans that there is no sit-at-home tomorrow,” he said.

Recall that since the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian government in 2021, many Biafrans have observed sit-at-home protests on Mondays in opposition to his detention and the marginalisation of the region.

During Monday’s sit-at-home, compliance was total, contrasting with previous protests.

Streets were deserted, human and vehicular traffic was minimal, with occasional tricycle and vehicle movements.

Schools, banks, and most shops were closed, while residents stayed indoors due to uncertainty.
