Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force has been awarded the prestigious International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the United Kingdom.

The Nigerian Air Force announced the accolade in a Facebook statement on Friday, titled “NAF Officer Awarded 2023 International Sword of Honour At RAF College Cranwell UK.”

The statement details that Sangokoya, who participated in the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22 from March to September 2023, was recognized as the Best International Cadet on the course.

“The RAFCC graduates up to eight courses yearly, and the International Sword of Honour is awarded to the most outstanding international cadet among all award-winning cadets for the year,” the statement noted.

The award was presented to Sangokoya by Prince William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III, during the Royal Graduation ceremony held on September 12, 2024.

In response to the honour, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, extended his congratulations to Sangokoya.

“The Chief of the Air Staff commended Flying Officer Sangokoya for this remarkable achievement, stressing that this prestigious recognition is a testament to his focus, dedication, and hard work throughout his training,” the statement said.

Abubakar also praised Sangokoya’s family for their support, noting, “The CAS applauded his family for their support and encouragement, which undoubtedly played a vital role in his success. The Nigerian Air Force is proud of this accomplishment, which shines a positive light on both the Service and the nation at large.”
