Police apprehend 2 kidnap suspects in Delta
The Police Command in Delta said it has apprehended two kidnapping suspects in the Orerokpe Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said this in a chat with newsmen in Warri on Tuesday.
Edafe said that the suspects were apprehended on March 5, by police operatives attached to the Orerokpe division after an intelligence-led investigation.
According to him, the victim of the suspects was abducted on Oct. 31, 2023 and later released after paying an undisclosed amount as ransom to the captors.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul Oboware, received a distress call about the suspected abduction of a man by three armed men.
“He swiftly mobilised and led detectives to the scene of the incident, combed all the adjoining streets and bushes in search of the hoodlums.
“The abductors later contacted and demanded for the sum of N5 million as ransom for the release of the victim.
“The victim was, however, released after paying an undisclosed amount to the suspects.”
The PPRO said that in spite of the release of the victim, the unrelenting DPO, armed with credible information continued with the intelligence-based investigation.
”The effort of the command paid off on March 5 when two of the suspects from an undisclosed community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state were apprehended.” he said.
Edafe explained that the suspects were linked to the abduction of the victim, adding that the captive had also identified the suspects.
The police spokesman, however, said that the investigation into the matter was ongoing, adding that efforts were in top gear to apprehend the other fleeing member of the gang.
He said that the Commissioner of Police (CP), in charge of the state, Mr Olufemi Abaniwonda, had warned against criminal activities in the state.
He said that Abaniwonda had also instructed officers of the command to ensure criminal activities were nipped in the bud while pledging the command’s commitment to protecting lives and properties in the state.
