Despite government warnings, residents took to the streets of Port Harcourt to protest hunger and bad governance.

The protesters took off from Port Harcourt Pleasure Park at the Air Force area and followed a procession down the stretch of Port Harcourt/Aba Express road, en route to Government House.

The protesters in their hundreds called for policy reforms in the drizzling rain.

A few of them were chatting, “We are hungry” while others carried placards and were dancing to the rhythmic pattern of Idris Abdulkarim’s “Nigeria Jaga Jaga” song.

Our correspondent gathered that the protest had been peaceful and coordinated at the time of filing this report.

On the side, some residents seized the moment to catch a carnival vibe, causing a convivial atmosphere.

There are police and other security agencies present along the stretch of the road supervising the procession.
