Senate approves N24b refund for airports to Kebbi, Nasarawa
The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to refund N24 billion to Kebbi and Nasarawa states for airport construction projects executed on behalf of the federal government.
The approval came after Senator Manu Haruna of Taraba Central presented a report on behalf of the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts.
In May 2024, President Tinubu requested N15 billion for Kebbi and N9 billion for Nasarawa, citing that aviation, including airports, falls under federal management according to the constitution.
There were no objections to the request.
Senator Aminu Abbas, representing Adamawa Central, emphasized the importance of airports for development and security.
“Airports are crucial for development and addressing insecurity,” he stated.
Senator Isah Jibrin from Kogi East also mentioned that his state recently received federal approval to construct an airport.
“Once the project is completed, we will return for a refund through promissory notes,” he said.
The request was approved following a voice vote conducted by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.
