A 20-year-old man, identified as Honest, has been taken into custody by the Egi Divisional Police headquarters in Obite, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State. He was accused of conspiring with his brother, Mr Okwukwe, to abduct and sexually assault a 14-year-old girl in the Erima community.

According to a community source, the siblings allegedly abducted the teenager on Sunday evening while she was walking alone on a path to her brother’s house. The source revealed that the girl was held from dusk to dawn, during which time she was subjected to a horrific ordeal.

The Second-in-Command of the ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Egi Command, Onuigba Chinonye Aboy, disclosed the disturbing incident involving the missing 14-year-old girl from the Erima community.

According to Aboy, he was on patrol with his team when they encountered a troubled woman who reported that her daughter had been missing since Sunday evening, with no word from her until Monday afternoon.

“I asked the woman which area; she directed us. We began investigating. Through some good neighbours, too, we tried to find out where the little girl was. When we went into the place, we saw two brothers raping a little girl of 14 years old.

“While attempting to arrest them, the older individual resisted and engaged in a physical altercation with us. Meanwhile, the younger one managed to escape. Eventually, we successfully apprehended the older individual and handed him over to the Egi Police Division in Obite on Monday evening.

“I want to advise other criminals who may be considering similar behaviour that they will face the same consequences if they do not change their ways. If they choose to change, the community will welcome them. However, if they continue their criminal activities, the community and Egi will not tolerate them and their actions,” he said.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, disclosed that one of the suspects has been arrested.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu, directed that the suspect and the case file be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.

He also mandated the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect. She added that all perpetrators of crime will face consequences for their actions.
