Founder, Monu Olarewaju Foundation, a non-governmental organization, Chinwe Monu Olaruwaju, has appealed to parents, governments and other stakeholders to jettison the idea of early marriage and female genital mutilation of the girl child, describing them as unpleasant traditional practices militated against them.

Olarewaju also expressed the need to protect the girl child from any form of sexual harassment and other violent abuses.

The former state lawmaker said in Asaba, at the weekend, that there is need for all and Sundry, including relevant institutions in the society to give attention to the rights and wellbeing of every girl child, now and in the future.

He urged girls to always speak out whenever their rights are infringed upon and tasked parents on the need to shun discrimination against female children, but to take adequate care of them like their male counterparts..

She noted that her foundation was established to provide assistance to the girl child towards unleashing their potential in life and making them have equal opportunity to education with their male counterpart.

Olaruwaju lauded United Nations for the global awareness on the issues that had to do with the plights of the girl child and urged girls to key into International Day of the Girl Child to be abreast of their rights and how to guide against harmful practices.
