Strong women in Africa to feature on Glo-sponsored CNN African Voices
Industrious African women will take the centre stage on this week’s CNN African Voices sponsored by data grandmasters, Globacom.
The international news channel CNN, in partnership with Globacom, will on the 30-minute magazine programme, African Voices, beam its spotlight on enterprising women on the continent who have excelled tremendously in their various fields of endeavour in spite of all odds.
Enterprising women such as Asnath Mahapa, Africa’s first female pilot from South Africa, Flavia Tumusiime, one of Uganda’s popular media celebrities, and Nicole Amarteifio, Ghana’s social media curator will feature on the programme.
According to Globacom in a statement released from its headquarters in Lagos, “viewers of the popular magazine programme will see how this icon – Tumusime – continues to build her legacy by empowering women to move into the spotlight”.
The South African Airways pilot, Asnath Mahapa, who flies the Airbus 319 and 320, will also reveal on the programme how she has been able to cope in the male dominated profession. She says, “to cut my story short, I went through a nightmare to get to where I am today; I went through periods where I didn’t have a job. In actual fact after I obtained my commercial licence, I stayed without a job for over a year. No matter how many companies I approached, I just could not get anything.”
Nicole Amarteifio, the creator and executive producer of the web series, An African City, will share with viewers how her personal life inspired her to create the series and how it is helping change the face of the African woman within mainstream society.
Viewers can watch the programme at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 1.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. on Sunday. They can also watch the show on Monday at 12:30 p.m. and on Tuesday at 6.30 a.m.
Last week, the programme featured Kenya’s Javelin athlete Julius Yego in the 2016 Rio Olympics; Paralympics swimmer Achmat Hassiem of Cape Town, South Africa, and Zambia’s runner, Ngozi Asinga.
