A COMMUTER train has hit a vehicle on the tracks north of New York City, killing at least six people and injuring 12, officials say.
They say the incident happened at the crossing in Valhalla on Tuesday evening.
The victims were the vehicle’s driver and five people aboard the crowded Metro-North train.
The car and front carriage of the train caught fire. Passengers had to escape from the rear of the train.
Service on Metro-North’s Harlem Line is now partly suspended.
The incident is being investigated.
