Group fetes children, elderly at Christmas lunch
For many children around Iwaya area of Lagos, the Christmas celebration was a memorable one courtesy of Community of Sant’Egidio who organised a Christmas lunch for them.
At the event, a number of children and senior citizens participated in the Christmas lunch put together by the group in Lagos. Aside the food and drinks provided the children and the elderly, there was plenty music for the children to have a memorable Christmas celebration.
All the beneficiaries were distributed into groups with 14 to 15 children sitting around a table where they were served food and drinks. On each table were volunteers who coordinated and served the children including eating the same food with the children.
The elderly persons besides eating at the event took home raw foodstuffs like spaghetti, rice, and noodles among others. Midway into the programme, Santa Claus was on ground to gift some children items like socks, noodles, spaghetti and others.
One of the beneficiaries, Samuel Hunkpe, thanked the organisers. “I feel excited because of the fun activities. I would have just being sitting at home if I was not invited to the party to celebrate the Xmas. I appreciate the opportunity.”
Another participant, Awoje Nasis, who commended the organisers, said it is a creative way to celebrate the Christmas with the children and adults. “I am so happy to participate because of the activities.”
