Nigeria U-17 star Ifeoluwa Olowoporoku joins IFK Göteborg preseason tour
Sixteen-year-old Nigerian football sensation Ifeoluwa Olowoporoku is making significant strides in his budding career, joining Swedish club IFK Göteborg for their preseason tour in Portugal. The youngster, who impressed as Nigeria’s youngest player at the 2023 Africa U-17 Nations Cup, has already agreed to join Göteborg through his academy, Tripple 44, and will officially move to the club upon turning 18 next year.
The preseason tour offers Olowoporoku an opportunity to train alongside seasoned professionals and participate in friendly matches against European sides such as Lillestrøm and Copenhagen. This exposure is expected to accelerate his development and help him adapt to the demands of top-flight football.
Olowoporoku’s talent was first discovered at Tripple 44 Football Academy in Ibadan, where he quickly distinguished himself as a key player. Club President Samuel Olatunji Okuku described the teenager’s influence: “Olowoporoku contributes to almost 75% of the goals scored by Tripple 44. Even at 16, his intelligence on the pitch is unmatched. He has a unique ability to find spaces and create opportunities for his teammates.”
Despite limited playing time at the Africa U-17 Nations Cup, where he made a brief one-minute appearance, Olowoporoku’s potential was evident. His inclusion in the Göteborg preseason squad underscores the club’s belief in his abilities and their commitment to nurturing young talent.
Known for developing promising players, IFK Göteborg views Olowoporoku as a vital part of their future. Training with the team during the tour will provide him with invaluable experience and help him integrate into their tactical setup ahead of his official move.
As Olowoporoku takes this pivotal step in his career, fans in Nigeria and beyond are eagerly watching, hopeful that this prodigious talent will soon make his mark on the European stage.
