From Ikorodu village to the fashion industry, Noah Otun is on the verge of redefining urban street fashion with his newly launched brand, Try Other Guys. Though, he was not born into a fashion family or trained as a fashion designer, his inquisitiveness and passion for fashion led him into the creative world.

Speaking with The Guardian in Lagos, Otun said his interest in fashion was developed after watching a fashion icon on YouTube.

“I just feel like, when they say you can’t do it, you should prove them wrong. Growing up was tough and people doubted me a lot due to my behavior, but I always surprise them by doing unpredictable things so, I told them, ‘you can’t underestimate me, Try Other Guys’, so, that’s how I came up with the idea. I printed just one T-shirt, then my friends started asking for more shirts in 2018, then, I made publicity and I sold a few shirts.”

He continued: “My dad wanted me to be a chef, because he desired me to follow his line of profession, while I wanted to be a footballer. But I later went to the Ikorodu Technical College and graduated as a student of Catering and Hospitality Management, but my journey changed and now I am in the fashion industry.”

Speaking on his collection, “This is urban street wears inspired by the street, for the street, but a peculiar fashion trend that has to be earned because it’s a luxury and cannot just for everybody.

This brand is for people that have reinvented themselves from the slums to achieve something so, Try Other Guys is a price, and the price is set aside for greatness, anybody from the slum who dreams of getting there, the brand is for them. This is a way to define street fashion in the way that is best sought after.”
