Rotary carries out tree planting, immunisation exercise in Festac Town
The Rotary Club of Festac Town, Lagos State, has taken its push for a beautiful environment and a healthy society a notch higher with increased tree planting and immunisation exercises in the area.
Within one month of the assumption of office, the new President, Rotarian Vincent Chinedu Iwueze, rallied members of the club to execute two projects in this regard.
Speaking on the tree planting projects, Iwueze said: “The Rotary year commenced July 1, 2023. Our first project kicked off on Saturday, July 22, with the planting of trees in support of the environment. The tree planting was successfully carried out along First Avenue, by Love Base Assembly Church. These trees will beautify the environment, much as they will help protect the environment and serve as shelter.
“To ensure that the trees grow well, we partnered with Love Base Assembly Church, whose premises lie adjacent to First Avenue, along the road, where these trees have been planted to assist with keeping an eye on them as a member of the benefiting community.”
He recalled that tree planting trees demonstrates the club’s support for the environment and planet Earth as part of its services to humanity.
“They will support the weather, in heat or during downpours. And the trees we planted this time around are coconut trees, unlike just planting any tree for only shelter. They will serve the benefit of shelter and also provide fruits for human consumption as well.
“This is exceptional and it is impactful because by the time those trees grow from season to season, people will always go there to take shelter, and when the fruits also mature, they can also help themselves with the fruits that they will bear.”
The club also on Sunday, July 23, 2023, despite a heavy downpour, carried out the vaccination of over 100 children between the age of one month to five years, at the Catholic Church of Presentation, 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos under the Rotary International Polio Out Break Response Immunisation programme.
