Ganiyu Olawale Olagesin Passes On
THE Olagesin family of Igbore, Abeokuta has announced the passing of their patriarch, Alhaji Ganiyu Olawale Olagesin on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 after a brief illness.
He was one of the first set of officers from the ‘E’ Department in the Nigeria Police Force who started the Nigeria Security Organisation (NSO). His last Police rank was Deputy Commissioner of Police and he was Assistant Director of Security in Lagos and Ondo States before moving on to Kwara State as a State Director of Security where he retired in 1985.
A communal and religious leader, Olagesin held a number of titles and positions which include Ekerin Adeen of Igbore Township, Seriki Adeen of Owode Egba and Oke Suna respectively, Baba Adiin of Ona Opepo Mosque, President, Young Brothers Club, and Patron, Association of Retired Officers of the State Security Services (SSS), Ogun State. He was also Chairman, Rockcity Hotel, Abeokuta.
He is survived by a wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and has been buried according to Muslim rites.
Fidau prayers were held in his honour on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Zulikha Abiola School of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Abeokuta.
