Atletico Madrid fret over injured Lookman’s availability for semifinals

Atletico Madrid bosses are worried that Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, may not be available for their UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg against Arsenal following the injury he sustained in the Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Lookman, who scored Atletico Madrid’s goal in the 1-2 defeat by Real Sociedad, was expected to undergo medical tests yesterday to ascertain the severity of the injury.

According to a Spanish publication, Marca, Marcos Llorente and Alexander Sorloth also picked up knocks in the game.

Diego Simeone’s side will meet Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League on April 29 in Madrid, with the reverse fixture billed for May 5 at the Emirates Stadium, London.

Lookman, who joined Atletico Madrid from Italy’s Atalanta during the winter transfer window, has become a crucial part of the Spanish team, whose only hope of a trophy lies in the Champions League after losing the Copa del Rey cup and faltering in La Liga.

The 28-year-old has already registered seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions for Simeone’s side.
