The Admiralty Football Club of Nigeria Navy has won the 2024 edition of Twenty Bucks Creative tournament, defeating the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) 2-0.
The Naval boys went home with N1 million, while the second-placed team received N600,000. The third-place team, ‘The People’s Team, went home with N300,000.
The four-day inter-agency football tournament organised by CEO, Twenty Bucks Creative, Charbel Olusanya, attracted over 4,000 football fans to the Navy Sports Camp in Apapa, Lagos, for the final match. Olusanya expressed his commitment to using his global connections in the sports industry to expose grassroots footballers to international opportunities.
“This is the first of its kind, where government agency and civilians participate in tournaments to promote peace and unity. For the past days of this tournament, God has made everything run smoothly. A lot of people supported us. MTN and Mikano sponsored us, and many government officials also lent their support. I am grateful to everyone.
“This tournament has united the people of the Apapa community, and this is just the starting point. 23 players have been selected to play professionally. Three of them will be going for trials in Turkey. The remaining players will participate in the Nigerian league for now. So, as for the players, we have accomplished a lot.
Also speaking, a FIFA-licensed agent, Gabriel Akande, said: “I have been here since the beginning of the tournament to observe prospective talents we can help to play professionally.
“The tournament has generally been peaceful. I would like to thank the sponsors, players, and the Navy for allowing us to use their premises. It has been amazing to watch such fantastic performances on the pitch. Three of the players have already shown promise for global play, and by December, two of them will be ready to play in Europe.”
On his part, the tournament’s best goalkeeper, Tosin Emoruwa, praised organizer, Olusanya, calling him the voice of the youth in the Apapa area
