Essay On Global Programme Opens For Varsity Students
THE United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in collaboration with ELS Educational Services Inc. invites students to participate in an essay contest through the Many Languages, One World Programme.
To participate, a student is to write an essay of 2,000 words or less on post-2015 global development agenda, making it to reflect the 70th anniversary of the UN, global sustainable development, and cultural and linguistic diversity.
Entries must be in an official language of the United Nations that is not your first language and was not your principal languages of instruction in your primary or secondary education. For Nigerians, the Language should be English.
Apart from this, participant must be a full-time university student and must be 18 years and above by March 25, 2015. He or she must be sponsored by a faculty member or authorised representative of his or her university.
ABSU VC Urges Freshmen To Shun Cultism

Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, last week, Tuesday, organised an orientation course for its freshmen in the school’s main auditorium.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. E.A. Udensi, the school’s VC, Professor Chibuzo Ogbuagu admonished the freshmen to shun cultism and to embrace Christ. In his words: “Cultism is not a good thing, you must therefore desist from the evil act. Beware of cultists that would come in guise of fellowship, offering to assist you in registration. You ought to identify with one genuine church or fellowship, so as to worship God.”
The orientation course was divided into nine lectures, which gave resource persons the opportunity to enlighten the freshmen on various issues.
Speaking on a paper titled, ‘the female undergraduate on campus’ president, Abia State University Women Association, Professor Stella Ogbuagu, x-rayed the challenges facing female students on campus and proffered solutions on the way forward. Part of the paper read, “fashion crazy syndrome – This refers to group of students, especially female students, who would spend their last kobo for the latest fashion in town. These group of people easily forget that all that glitter is not gold.”
Speaking on the use of the library, the acting librarian, Mr. M.C. Onwubiko, told the students to befriend the library, stressing that one could benefit a lot at the library. He dismissed the idea of students preferring to read in the hostel or classroom.
NYSC Corps Member Award Scholarship To Orphans

Joshua Orege, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, serving at the St Brendan’s Secondary School, Iyamoyong in Cross River State, has awarded scholarships to six orphans in the council.
At the event held at the Local Government Council Hall in Obubra, Orege said he gave the scholarship to encourage literacy among the less privileged.
Orege, who is the best chemistry graduating student of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, said: “After observing that for several weeks these children did not go to school because nobody could pay their school fees, I decided to place the burden on myself.”
The Cross River State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Habibu Kurawa commended Orege for supporting educational advancement in the state.
Represented by the HOD, Community Development Service (CDS), Mr. Chuka Osuagwu, he advised the beneficiaries to properly utilise the opportunity and stay focused. He also charged other corps members to emulate Orege’s good work.
One of the beneficiaries, Ekpang Gift Ngbongha, an SS1 student of Egara Community Secondary School, Iyametet, appreciated Orege for giving them hope to return to school.
