THE Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria (CMON) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and credible polls during the forthcoming elections, while appealing to political candidates and their supporters to do away with foul languages. They also enjoined all Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to ensure that they perform their civic duties and elect likely leaders.

This call was made at a press briefing organised by the lay organisation at the Press Centre of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland.

Speaking at the press briefing, the National President of CMON, Dr. Basil Adedeji Adebajo said, “All we are appealing is for INEC to conduct proper elections. In other parts of the world, elections are the easiest thing but in Nigeria, it has been taken more or less as “a do-or-die affair,” which should not be.

Adebajo also stressed the need for all legible Nigerians to obtain their PVCs, which he described as the citizens’ power to decide who rules the country. “Nigerians should look, listen and properly appraise aspirants before voting and most importantly, they shouldn’t vote with sentiment. .

The National President, however, expressed regrets over the alleged 1.5 million Nigerians that have been turned into refugees in the country. Consequently, he appealed to the Federal Government to do everything necessary to end the Boko Haram insurgence.
