79, 800 enrolls for unity schools entrance admission
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Charles Uwakwe, has said about 79,800 candidates registered for this year’s National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal Government Unity Colleges nationwide.
While monitoring conduct of the examination in some centres in Abuja, yesterday, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, he said Lagos State topped the list with 25,800 candidates.
Uwakwe, who noted that the number of candidates is likely to increase, assured that adequate security measures have been put in place, especially in security challenged states.
He said: “The enrolment is still ongoing, because I got some reports on the enrolment of 150 candidates from the Southeast states, as the minister insisted that we should keep the doors open for the children, so that nobody will be alienated and that is exactly what we have done. We are very positive that the numbers will increase.”
He noted that the Federal Ministry of Education would determine the number of students that will be offered admission, according to the carrying capacities of the schools.
