Coalition of sickle cell NGOs gets new chairman
Timi Edwin has emerged as the new Chairman of the Coalition of Sickle Cell NGOs (CSCN), taking over from Oluwatoyin Adesola.
In her acceptance speech, Edwin pledged to, in conjunction with other members of the coalition, intensify engagement with policymakers to push for stronger, evidence-based sickle cell policies that prioritise the needs of those living with this condition.
The new chairman at the handover ceremony, in Lagos, stated that the coalition voices must continue to be heard at the highest levels.
Edwin, also the Founder/Chief Executive Officer of the CrimsonBow Sickle Cell Initiative, praised the immediate past chairperson, Oluwatoyin Adesola, for her unwavering commitment and visionary leadership in advancing the mission of the coalition.
Under her leadership, she noted that CSCN achieved remarkable milestones, from the impactful Red Umbrella Walk to policy advocacy at the Senate, capacity-building initiatives, and stronger collaborations with key stakeholders.
Edwin, who stressed building on past successes, said: “We recognise that collaboration is key to achieving sustainable impact. We will deepen our partnerships with government agencies, healthcare institutions, corporate organisations, and international bodies to drive meaningful change.”
She observed that the coalition is as strong as its members.
“It is together that we will break barriers, challenge misconceptions, and push forward with solutions that create lasting impact,” Edwin stated.
The immediate past chairman of the coalition, Adesola applauded members for their support.
“Serving in this capacity has been an immense honour, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together in our shared mission to improve the lives of individuals living with sickle cell disorder.
“Over the course of my tenure, we have made remarkable strides in strengthening the Coalition and amplifying our impact.”
Adesola maintained that despite the individuality of the coalition member, they must always remember that it is not about them but about the lives they seek to impact.
She insisted that the achievements recorded during her tenure would not have been possible without the unwavering dedication, hard work, and passion of each member of the coalition.
A member of the coalition, Osasele Esangbedo of Noah’s Ark Foundation, said the event is not just a change in baton but also a celebration of the group’s collective commitment to advocacy and support to the sickle cell community as well as improving the lives of those affected by the disorder.
