Gridlock as fuel tanker burns  at MMA2 Ikeja

Vehicular movements in and around the domestic wing of the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, popularly known as MMA2 was yesterday grounded for several hours following the burning of a fuel tanker along the road.

The tanker, which was coming through the international wing, an eyewitness said, suddenly caught fire near Stragbag bus stop, leaving other motorists and pedestrians to scamper for safety.

The situation could have degenerated but for the quick intervention of airport fire service and security operatives, who condoned the place and diverted vehicles towards the airport and the National Airspace Management Authority.

The incident also caused serious gridlock on the road, spanning to Mobolaji Bank Anthony way, which resulted to missed flights for many travellers. Many passengers, who could not get buses, also trekked to their destinations as the gridlock continued to extend.

An Abuja-bound passenger, who simply gave his name as Kunle told The Guardian that he was forced to abandon his vehicle at NAHCO Park for a commercial motorcyclist in order not to miss his flight.
