A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Osun State, Precious Ibuoye, has rallied young minds to embrace patriotism, integrity, and leadership He made the call at the Independence Day Secondary School Students’ Conference held at Winners Embassy Arena, Ogooluwa, Osogbo.
In commemoration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, with the theme “Students as Builders of a Greater Nigeria,” the conference brought together hundreds of secondary school students, teachers, and corps members across Osun State for an inspiring day of learning, dialogue, and empowerment.
The convener, Ibuoye said the initiative stemmed from his passion for nation-building and his desire to invest in the next generation through his NYSC Community Development Service (CDS) project. “Never despise your little ideas,” he encouraged. “True greatness is not measured by what you own, but by the lives you touch. Change begins with small actions that improve our communities.”
Speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Segun Oyewole, emphasised that true national transformation requires deliberate effort. “Nigeria’s dream can never happen by chance but by choice,” he said. “We must be bold enough to become the change we desire and start thinking like leaders.”
Keynote speaker, Professor Chinwe Obiaku, Director-General and Special Envoy to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, reminded the students that nation-building begins with personal responsibility. “Students are not just the future; they are relevant today. Corruption is not only political – examination malpractice is part of it. Every Nigerian student must lead by example,” she charged.
Dr. Femi Bello of Redeemer’s University, underscored the value of consistency and integrity in leadership. “Nigeria has never happened to Nigerians except Nigerians happen to Nigeria. Nation-building is a lifelong task that demands faithfulness and diligence,” he said.
The conference featured interactive sessions, student-led presentations, and distribution of learning materials – including books, pens, bags, and other educational resources. In conclusion, participants were charged to embrace discipline, creativity, and leadership as essential tools for building a stronger, more united Nigeria “
