In a deliberate investment in the development of future leaders, My Dream Stead School has rewarded academic excellence with an experience designed to take learning beyond the classroom, giving a young learner first-hand exposure to leadership, governance, civic institutions and society.
The school’s maiden internal Spelling Bee champion, Ochulor Precious, who also serves as its Senior Prefect, was taken on an all-expenses-paid educational tour of Abuja as part of a multifaceted reward for her outstanding performance.
Rather than limiting academic recognition to prizes and certificates, My Dream Stead School combined the achievement with opportunities for leadership, exposure and civic learning. Precious received a scholarship, served as the school’s proprietor for a day and embarked on the educational tour of Nigeria’s capital.
The initiative reflects a broader philosophy that investing in children requires more than academic instruction. It requires creating opportunities for young people to encounter institutions, leaders and real-world experiences that can shape their aspirations and understanding of society.
During the Abuja tour, Precious visited the National Assembly, where she was hosted by Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District.
She also visited the Police Service Commission, where she was received by Barrister Taiwo Lakanu, DIG (Rtd.), Commissioner II. The visit provided an opportunity for the young learner to gain insight into the mandate, structure and responsibilities of the Commission.
The tour further included visits to the Art and Craft Market, Abuja City Gate, an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp and other educational and recreational sites across the Federal Capital Territory.
For the school, the experience was designed to connect classroom knowledge with the realities of citizenship, leadership and community life.
Proprietor of My Dream Stead School, Amb. Isaac Success Omoyele, said the initiative was rooted in the belief that education should equip children not only with knowledge but also with the confidence, character and exposure required to contribute meaningfully to society.
According to him, giving children access to leaders and institutions helps them understand that the subjects they encounter in school are connected to the real world and that they, too, can become active participants in shaping society.
The decision to allow Precious to serve as proprietor for a day formed another dimension of the leadership-development initiative, giving her a practical opportunity to experience responsibility, decision-making and organisational leadership.
For Precious, the Abuja experience offered a rare opportunity to move from learning about institutions in textbooks to encountering some of them first-hand. She expressed appreciation to the school for creating what she described as a memorable and impactful experience.
The initiative highlights the potential of education-focused social impact interventions to shape young lives. By rewarding excellence with exposure and responsibility, My Dream Stead School is demonstrating an approach to child development that recognises that future leadership is built through knowledge, experience, confidence and opportunity.
