SWAN tasks members on integrity, self-discipline
Members of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) have been urged to imbibe self-discipline in the discharge of their duties as committed accountants.
This call was made at a ‘Day-out with a VIP’ held in Ikeja GRA, Lagos State, organised by the association with the theme, ‘The power of Perseverance: The Inspiring Journey from a Humble Beginning to Great Success.’
The VIP and guest, Fola Ogunsola, a Chartered Accountant, who is also the Managing Director of Finesse Consults Limited, shared her inspiring career journey with the audience.
She urged the women not to relent in their desire to be the change they hope to see in the profession.
“Women should be who they say they are and walk in integrity and pay the price to achieve that. It takes a lot of self-discipline, energy and commitment to achieve success and that is the target. At the end of it all, we should be able to make a positive social change anywhere we find ourselves.
“I want female members to stand their ground; somethings appear to be cast in stone but that should not be. They should be able to say no when things get out of procedure. Accountancy is a noble profession. There is a timeline for everything we do and so we shouldn’t jump the gun; let’s go through the process and ensure they are grounded so they can deliver positively,” Ogunsola said.
She, however, noted that while the profession is not an easy one for women, a strong and determined woman would always succeed in it.
“You do not have to be in a hurry. You are going to be condemned; people will say you are high-handed. That is what the profession demands and you have to stand your ground and be consistent,” she added.
In her remarks, National Chairperson, SWAN, Mrs. Catherin Nnaji, noted that the purpose of the event was to enable the members to grow by tapping into the knowledge and experience of someone that has risen to be reckoned with in her desired career path.
“It is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and insight from a seasoned professional who has achieved a level of expertise she aspired to attain. It is one way to help us grow as individuals and become the best version of ourselves. It is one way to help us achieve our personal or career goals,” she said.
On her part, the committee chairperson, Victoria Oluwaniyi, said: “We honour our SWAN queens who have embraced the trials and tribulations of life and turned them into stepping stones to success. Their tales of resilience teach us valuable lessons about the power of the human spirit and the limitless potential within each of us. The power of perseverance not only applies to individual journeys but also resonates deeply with organisations and communities.”
