Kwara govt rewards best WAEC student with N1m, constitutes c’ttee on special education
In its bid to make education accessible to children with special needs, the Kwara State government has inaugurated a committee on Special Education, rewarding an outstanding student in the West Africa School Certificate Examination (WASCE) with N1 million.
During the event, which was held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development conference room, the Commissioner for Special Duties, John Olagunju Bello, who represented Governor Mallam AbdulRasaq AbdulRahman, said that the award was in recognition of the brilliance demonstrated by a senior secondary school student at Rehoboth College, llorin, Adeshina Shalom, who had straight A1s in all his WASCE nine papers. Adeshina was spotted by the Ministry of Special Duties and was later presented to the Commissioner for Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Moddibo Kawu.
Out of the governor’s passion for outstanding academic excellence, the brilliant student was awarded the sum of N1 million as a cash award.
The Commissioner appreciated the governor for such a worthwhile gesture, encouraging the awardee to put more effort into his studies.
On the newly inaugurated board, which was targeted at enhancing the welfare of children with special needs, she said that efforts would not be spared in supporting the education of children with disability.
