Hafsoh Killing: Emir of Ilorin urges thorough investigation

Following the weekend killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, by a Facebook lover, Abdulrahman Bello, in Ilorin, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has directed all Muslim clerics to prioritise moral lectures in their weekly Friday khutbah (sermon).
He charged clerics in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond to sanitise the system by ensuring that the likes of Abdulrahman Bello are expressly exposed to law enforcement agencies before wreaking more havoc and damaging the lives of innocent persons.
The monarch, who expressed sadness over the gruesome killing of Hafsoh by an acclaimed alfa (cleric), also urged the police to ensure a thorough investigation and serve justice.
The Emir, in a press release by his spokesperson, Abdulazeez Arowona, on Sunday, therefore directed religious leaders, especially Imams in mosques in the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large, to ensure that their Friday khutbah focuses more on morality, dignity in labor, as well as the importance of and respect for the souls of fellow human beings, irrespective of tribe, religion, and status.
Sulu-Gambari, while condemning the incident, described it as “a most unfortunate, alien, and regrettable act of wickedness.”
“It has become pertinent for parents, guardians, and people in the neighborhood to remain vigilant to happenings around them, especially ensuring that their children and wards are in the company of people of tested and trusted character with well-researched family backgrounds.
“It is only hard work that pays. A total war should be declared against idleness, laziness, and unwarranted loitering around society by youths in the name of finding means of survival,” he advised.
While commiserating with the family of the late Hafsoh, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari urged the Nigeria Police and the Judiciary to ensure that justice is served in this matter.
