The Senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha, has sponsored a four-day free comprehensive medical outreach in rural parts of the four local governments in his zone.

The four-day event, which concluded last Sunday, provided free treatments for a range of health conditions, including malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, gastroenteritis, peptic ulcers, asthma, diarrhoea, and other common ailments.

The comprehensive medical mission was a joint exercise with the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Budo Egba, and was launched last Sunday at the Oke-Oyi main market in Ilorin East Local Government.

It was simultaneously held in Tanke for Ilorin South, the forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin’s Palace for Ilorin West, and the final leg of the programme took place in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area.

The Director General of the Saliu Mustapha Foundation, Alhaji Ambali Adebayo, emphasised that the four-day medical outreach was just the beginning of a broader plan to improve healthcare access and services in the district.

“This medical outreach is only the tip of the iceberg. Senator Mustapha is fully committed to ensuring the well-being of his people. More programmes focused on health, education, and economic empowerment are already in the works,” said Adebayo.

The comprehensive outreach, however, has been commended by the beneficiaries, who described the impact as appropriately targeted toward the health needs of the people.

The rural stakeholders, community dwellers, religious leaders, and other beneficiaries took turns to heap praises on the lawmaker.

The exercise, monitored by newsmen, was well attended by medical professionals who conducted check-ups, administered medications, and provided health education to the attendees.

At the closing ceremony in Alapa, the Chief Imam of the community, Alhaji Ahmad Ambali Abass, said: “Health is crucial, and what Senator Mustapha has done here is invaluable. Many people are suffering silently from various health issues but can’t afford to visit hospitals. This initiative has given them hope.”

A community leader in Alapa and one of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Anafi Abdulkadri, echoed similar sentiments and emphasised the long-term impact the outreach would have on the community, especially for those who were unaware of their health conditions before attending the event.

“The tests conducted have revealed many hidden health challenges among our people, and now they can take the necessary steps to manage them,” Abdulkadri stated.

Another beneficiary of the outreach, Suebat Issa, shared her personal struggle with diabetes, explaining that she had been unable to afford her prescribed medications.

“I’ve been dealing with diabetes for years, but the cost of medication has been overwhelming. If not for this outreach, I wouldn’t have had access to the drugs I needed. I’m truly grateful to Senator Mustapha for his help,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Falilat Usman, expressed her relief and joy that both she and her daughter were able to receive medical attention during the programme.

“It’s not just me; my daughter also got treated. This outreach has helped my family in ways I can’t describe,” she shared.
