Rivers LG polls: Action Alliance wins chairman, councilor positions in Etche
The candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) party, Uzodinma Nwafor, has been declared winner of the chairmanship seat of Etche Local Government Area in the just concluded Rivers State Council elections.
Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), described the outcome the polls in the area as profound, stating that the ballot paper in the hands of the people is stronger than arms and ammunition.
Justice Enebeli on Saturday announced that the Action Peoples Party (APP) won 22 out of the 23 local counci chairmanship l seats, noting that Etche council was stood down because the elections was not completed in some areas in the council.
Enebeli while declaring the winners of the chairmanship of Etche Local Government, and the 319 councillorship positions affirmed that the election was free and fair.
The RSIEC Chairman explained that after it was stood down on Saturday, the process of collation of votes cast in Etche Local Government for the chairmanship position has eventually been completed.
The RSIEC Chairman said with discrete introspection, impartiality and electoral justice, with the lawful votes meeting the two-thirds of the majority of valid votes cast in favour of the Action Alliance party candidate, who is now declared the winner and returned elected.
Justice Enebeli said: “We can see that Rivers people and residents in their overwhelming majority of opinion have given veracity of vindication to Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) avowed position to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent, all-inclusive, violence-free, successful and treasured election by the Treasure Base of the Nation, Rivers State, without police or security agencies.”
Justice Enebeli said that of the 319 political wards, the Action Peoples Party (APP) won 314 councillorship positions while other parties clinched a win for the remaining five (5) positions.
