Emem Isong-Misodi earns doctorate degree in film, media arts

The award-winning producer, screenwriter and director, Emem Isong-Misodi, has bagged a doctorate degree in Film and Media Arts from the University of the Creative Arts, United Kingdom.

With this, Isong-Misode, who relocated to the United States a few years back, has joined the league of Nigerian celebrities who are doctorate degree holders.
Isong-Misode, whose efforts could be seen in films such as, The Breaking Point, Reloaded, and Private Sin, among others, recently celebrated her new status on Instagram.

She wrote: “It has been a full circle of this doctoral research at the University of the Creative Arts, to which I am grateful for supporting me on this journey. 2020 to 2024, four years of gruelling study. And now, two hours after a comprehensive viva presentation, feedback and recommendations, I humbly present to you, Dr. Emem Isong Misodi (PhD).”

The four years programme saw the producer researching on how hybridity has emerged in the process of constructing identity in Nollywood cinema. According to her, the study was informed by her over 25 years of experience as a Nigerian filmmaker.

This is even as Emem is warming for the second edition of her film festival, African Cultural Film Festival (AFFRICUFF), which holds yearly in Houston, the United States, from October 26 to 29, with, ‘Cultural Resilience: Strength In Diversity’, as theme. The maiden edition of the film festival held last year and it was a huge success.
